# Using Google Voice with LeadTruffle for Missed Call Text-Back & AI Voice

### Google Voice TL;DR for Missed Call Handling

* **No missed call forwarding**: Google Voice can only forward *all* calls—not just missed ones.
* **Option 1**: Forward all calls from Google Voice to LeadTruffle—AI answers every call.
* **Option 2**: Forward Google Voice to your cell/VOIP, then set up *conditional* forwarding from there to LeadTruffle.
* **Important setting**: In Google Voice settings, turn OFF “Show my Google Voice number as caller ID” so we see the real caller’s number.

# Overview

Google Voice is a popular choice for small businesses to manage incoming calls, but it has significant limitations when integrating with missed call follow-up systems like LeadTruffle. This article explains your options and the workarounds available.

## Key Limitation with Google Voice

1. No Conditional Call Forwarding: Google Voice does not support conditional forwarding (e.g., only forwarding missed calls). You can only forward **all** calls.
2. No Missed Call Notifications: If calls aren't answered on any linked device (web browser, app, or forwarding number), Google Voice doesn't log or notify you of missed calls reliably.

## Option 1: Forward All Calls to LeadTruffle

* In your Google Voice settings, enable call forwarding and enter your LeadTruffle number.
* All calls will be answered by LeadTruffle's AI voice agent.
* This setup ensures that every caller gets a response, but it doesn't allow you to answer calls yourself.

## Option 2: Use Another Number for Conditional Forwarding

If you want to personally answer calls but have missed calls go to LeadTruffle:

1. Set your Google Voice number to forward to another number (e.g., your cell phone or a VOIP system that supports conditional forwarding).
2. On that destination number, set up conditional forwarding (missed calls only) to your LeadTruffle number.

## Recommended Caller ID Setting

[In Google Voice settings](https://voice.google.com/u/0/settings):

1. Turn off "Show my Google Voice number as caller ID when forwarding calls."
2. This ensures the original caller's number shows up in LeadTruffle, not your Google Voice number.

## Summary

Google Voice lacks native support for missed call forwarding. To integrate with LeadTruffle's missed call text-back feature, you must either:

1. Forward all calls directly to LeadTruffle, or
2. Forward to another phone system that supports missed call forwarding.
