Overview
Business phone verification lets you show your company's existing business number when you call leads through LeadTruffle. You keep your current phone provider, and nothing about how that number works today changes.
Once verified and selected, your business number is used as the caller ID for:
- Browser Click-to-Call
- Call my phone
- Automatic Call Bridge
- Demos
Which number does what
There are three different numbers involved. It helps to know which is which before you start.
Number | What it does |
|---|---|
Calling number | Your active LeadTruffle number, saved in Click-to-Call settings. This is the default caller ID. It's also the number your team sees when LeadTruffle rings them. |
Business caller ID | The number your contacts see when you call them. This is either your calling number or a verified business number. |
Call Bridge ring destination | The team number LeadTruffle rings first (a default number, or one specific to a lead source). Entering a number here does not make it your caller ID. |
Example: Call Bridge rings your Yelp tracking number so your team picks up. Your team sees the LeadTruffle calling number. The lead sees your company's main business number.
Step 1: Save your calling number
- Go to Settings → Phone → Numbers & Settings.
- In the Click-to-Call section, choose an active calling number.
- Click Save.
You need a saved calling number before you can verify a business number.
Step 2: Start verification for your business number
- On the same page, find the Business caller ID section.
- Enter the business number you want contacts to see.
- Select Call to verify.
LeadTruffle will place a verification call to that number right away, so make sure someone is ready to answer it.
Step 3: Answer the verification call
- Answer the call on your business number. The call is in English.
- LeadTruffle displays a six-digit code on screen.
- Enter that code on the phone's keypad.
The verification request expires after 10 minutes.
Step 4: Select the number shown to contacts
- Wait until the number shows as Verified.
- Under Number shown to contacts, choose your verified business number.
- It saves immediately. Look for the confirmation: Caller ID saved for Click-to-Call and Call Bridge.
What verification does and doesnt change
- Return calls ring where they always have. When a lead calls your business number back, it follows your existing phone setup. Verification doesn't transfer (port) your number or change where it rings.
- Texting isn't affected. Verification doesn't enable texting from your business number or change the number your texts come from.
- It doesn't set your business name or remove spam labels. Verification confirms you own the number. Whether a lead's phone shows your business name, or flags a call as spam, is controlled by the lead's mobile carrier. We can't guarantee either.
Removing or restoring a verified number
Remove a number
- Choose a different caller ID under Number shown to contacts first.
- Select Remove on the number you no longer want.
Removing a number only removes it from LeadTruffle. It doesn't affect the number with your phone provider.
Restore a number
- Enter the number again under Business caller ID.
- Select Call to verify.
- Select the restored number under Number shown to contacts.
If your company's earlier verification still matches your current calling account, you won't get another verification call. The number is restored right away.
Troubleshooting
Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
I don't see the Business caller ID section | Make sure you're a company administrator and that Click-to-Call is available on your account. |
I can't start verification, or no call comes in | Save an active calling number first (Step 1). Make sure someone can answer the business number and enter the code. |
It's stuck on "Waiting" or "Checking call status" | Wait for it to finish or expire (10 minutes). It won't place another call automatically. |
It says "Not verified" or "Verification expired" | Select Try verification again and use the new code. |
Contacts still see my old number | Select the verified number under Number shown to contacts and confirm you see the "Caller ID saved" message. |
It says "Caller ID unavailable" | Choose your calling number or another verified number. Manual calls will show an error. Call Bridge will skip the call, but your normal lead handling continues. LeadTruffle never swaps in a different caller ID without telling you. |
It says the number is already registered | The number is verified on another company's account. Contact us so we can confirm your company owns it, or use a different number. |
I've tried too many times | You can start one request per minute, with up to 3 attempts per number per hour and 5 per company per hour. Wait and try again. |
My number needs verifying again | Switching to a different calling account can require you to verify again. Repeat Steps 2–4. |
Summary
You've set your existing business number as the caller ID for calls placed through LeadTruffle. Leads now see a number they recognize, return calls still ring through your current phone setup, and texting is unchanged.
